Adria Arjona is set to join James Gunn’s DCU in his Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. While the role that the Star Wars actress will play has not been revealed, rumors are already circulating that she will be portraying Maxima, an anti-heroine alien queen who first appeared in 1989’s Action Comics No. 645, which has been written as the antagonist of Superman or his love interest, but that has not been confirmed as of yet.
This confirmation comes after reports last week that Arjona tested for a major role for the DC Studio’s sequel, along with other actresses, including Tell Me Lies’ Grace Van Patten, Alien: Earth’s Sydney Chandler, and The Uninvited’s Eva De Dominici. The finalists screentested in Atlanta in early April. Man of Tomorrow will be centered around Superman (David Corenswet) and his arch nemesis Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult) teaming up to take on the super-intelligent alien Brainias (Lars Eidinger). Set to return in the sequel are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Aaron Pierre is set to reprise his role as John Stewart from HBO’s upcoming DC series Lanterns.
Last year, Arjona starred opposite Dakota Johnson in the comedy film Splitsville and finished out her 17-episode run as Bix Caleen in the Star Wars series Andor. Coming up, Arjona has four feature films set for release: the romantic heist remake The Thomas Crown Affair, the action-horror Onslaught, the sci-fi comedy Alpha Gang, and the erotic thriller Scorn. DC Studios had no comment on the casting.
Man of Tomorrow is expected to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
