The leadership landscape of Lucasfilm is undergoing some serious changes. The current president, Kathleen Kennedy, will be stepping down and making way for new management effective this week.
Kennedy has been tied to Lucasfilm projects long before she became the president of the company. Although a frequent collaborator with Steven Spielberg, she was a producer on several Lucasfilm movies throughout the 80’s, including The Land Before Time and Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom.
Once Disney scooped up Lucasfilm and began moving forward with more theatrical Star Wars projects, Kennedy was tapped by George Lucas himself to oversee the company. From there, she’d be on board with all the films released since 2015’s The Force Awakens, and would continue to play a critical producing role in the films and TV shows that would follow.
Rather than one person taking the spot, the duties of Lucasfilm President will be split by two people, as announced by Alan Bergman. Both Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan will serve as President and Co-President, respectively.
Filoni will be the newly declared Chief Creative Officer for the company going forward. For fans of the franchise, especially the television side, this doesn’t come as a major shock. Filoni has been hard at work with the franchise for many years now, with his first major project coming in 2008 when he helped get Star Wars: The Clone Wars off the ground. While The Clone Wars was quite the hit among fans, running for seven seasons, Filoni threw his hat in the ring with many other Star Wars shows, from Star Wars: Rebels to The Mandalorian. He’s even a producer and co-writer on the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu.
Deadline notes that Brennan, much like Filoni, already has a hefty resume over at Lucasfilm. She got her start in 1999 when she joined the SFX company Industrial Light & Magic, and would work her way up the ladder all the way to her most recent position as the head of Lucasfilm Business.
