The next film from Noah Baumbach and Netflix is just on the horizon. Under the title of Jay Kelly, the first trailer has been released following its film festival debut.
Jay Kelly follows an A-list actor who goes on an unusual journey with his manager to reconcile his past, and learn how to improve himself. George Clooney plays the titular actor, Jay Kelly, along with Adam Sandler playing his manager, Ron. The supporting cast is filled out with other big name talents including Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, and Jim Broadbent.
As is the case with many of his films, Baumbach is not only directing, but is also responsible for co-writing the screenplay. Baumbach has many acclaimed films to his name already, including Frances Ha, White Noise, and The Meyerowitz Stories (New And Selected). One of his most well known works, Oscar-winning Marriage Story, was also a collaboration with Netflix, much like Jay Kelly.
Jay Kelly is co-written by Emily Mortimer, alongside producers Amy Pascal, David Heyman, and Baumbach himself.
Hollywood Reporter noted that the film initially debuted at the Venice International Film Festival. It was included in the running for the famed Golden Lion, but reportedly lost to Father Mother Sister Brother.
Jay Kelly will hit Netflix on December 5th, after a limited theatrical run starting November 14th. Check out the trailer below.
