Clark Kent is preparing for his battle against Lex Luthor ahead of Superman flying onto theater screens next month. Just a few weeks out from its debut, the silence has finally been broken on the runtime.
Writer and director James Gunn confirmed the runtime for the film himself on Threads. As he stated, the film clocks in at 2 hours and 9 minutes, including the film’s credits as well as any post credit scenes.
Superman is not only just another take on the man of steel, but marks another big step in Gunn’s career. Gunn made a huge impact in the world of Marvel in 2014, when he released Guardians Of The Galaxy, which became an instant hit. He’d go on to helm the other two films in the trilogy, as well as doing The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker for DC. After both of those, he’d go on to become the head of the newly minted DC Studios, heading up the company alongside Peter Safran.
As well as confirming the runtime, Gunn also stated that he never had to use his station within DC to shut down studio interference of any kind. Screenrant notes that a user on X asked in 2023 if parent company Warner Bros. ever gave any notes on how the film should play out. In his response, Gunn said they wouldn’t be getting any notes from WB on the film, given it’s under DC Studios.
“Since we came on board, we’re two separate entities within WBD,” Gunn said.
Superman makes it to the big screen on July 11th.
