A new film called The Housemaid is now in production at Lionsgate. The film is based on Frieda McFadden’s hit psychological thriller novel. In The Housemaid, a struggling young woman named Millie gets a job as a housemaid for a wealthy young couple. She soon discovers dangerous secrets working for the family.
The film will star Sydney Sweeny, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michelle Morrone. Feig, Todd Lieberman, Carly Kleinbart Elter, and Laura Fischer are producing, with Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden, and Alex Young as executive producers.
Lionsgate co-president Erin Westerman Had a few things to say upon the announcement of the project:
Part of the fun of the book was imagining the cast while we read it, and Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina — they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.
The Housemaid novel was released in 2022 and became a New York Times bestseller with over 1 million copies sold. It also spawned three follow-up books: The Housemaid’s Secret, The Housemaid’s Wedding, and The Housemaid is Watching.
It will be exciting to see the adaptation of the novel come to life on the big screen. The film is planned for release around Christmastime in 2025.
