To celebrate Garfield’s (least) favorite day of the week, Columbia Pictures and Alcon Entertainment have premiered the newest trailer for The Garfield Movie.
The trailer begins by showing Garfield’s untold origin story. After Baby Garfield (whose cuteness rivals that of Baby Groot and Baby Yoda) is left alone by his father, he encounters Jon chowing down at an Italian Restaurant. Although Jon offers Garfield a single piece of pepperoni, Garfield instead consumes the entire pizza in one large gulp. He then goes on to eat all the food in the restaurant, including Garfield’s favorite treat, lasagna. The trailer continues, introducing us to Garfield’s normal adult life living with Jon and his silent pet dog Odie.
The Garfield Movie hopes to offer something fresh for both new fans and those familiar with the original Garfield comics. Rather than take place entirely in Jon’s house, the new film takes the animal duo on an outdoor adventure where they cross paths with Garfield’s estranged father Vic and the deranged cat who chases him. The trailer promises a film filled with lots of laughs and, of course, lots of lasagna!
The Garfield Movie stars Chris Pratt as the iconic orange cat and Samuel L. Jackson as his Vic. Other members of the star-studded voice cast include Hannah Waddingham (who voices the film’s yet-unnamed villain), Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillén, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Snoop Dogg (appearing, ironically, as a cat).
The Garfield Movie was written by Paul A. Kaplan & Mark Torgove and David Reynolds and was directed by Chicken Little and The Emperor’s New Groove’s Mark Dindal. The film is set to release on May 24, 2024, just in time for summer. Check out the new trailer above and the poster, (featuring the adorable kitten Garfield) below.
