After his famous role in The Mummy, Brendan Fraser returns to the screen for his role as an obese English teacher named Charlie in the A24 film The Whale. The film is directed by Darren Arnofsky. The Whale is his first directorial effort since 2017’s Mother!.
The film stars Brendan Frasier as Charlie and Sadie Sink as his 17 year old daughter. Arnofsky takes the challenge into adapting Samuel D. Hunter’s playwright of the same name into a screenplay.
The movie follows Charlie (Fraser), an English instructor dwelling with weight problems who has determined to eat himself to death. His ache and distress stems from the abandonment and demise of his homosexual lover, which is one of the reasons that makes him to keep eating and never stop. On top of everything, Charlie is struggling to reconnect with his 17-year-old daughter played by Sadie Sink from Netflix’s Stranger Things.
After the release of the trailer and screenings at different film festivals, Fraser is the talk of the town for Oscar buzz as Best Actor. At the Venice Film Festival, Fraser received a six minute standing ovation that had many actors who attended in tears.
The Whale is set to release in theatres this December.
