Paramount Pictures and Hasbro have released a trailer for the upcoming G.I. Joe spinoff movie entitled Snake Eyes. It will follow the story of the popular masked figure from the franchise before he had the mask.
The trailer is only a minute long, but shows off some face-paced sequences and leans heavily into the classic origin troupes from films past. From the training sequences, to unknown truths, to finally seeing the Snake Eyes mask at the end of the trailer, it gives us the classic moments you would expect from our first glimpse into the film. In the clip below, there is also a special behind the scenes feature that shows off some additional footage and provides a glimpse into the making of the film with the cast and crew.
Snake Eyes this time around is played by rising superstar Henry Golding. Golding came on to the scene with his portrayal as billionaire Nick Young in Crazy Rich Asians. This will be the actor’s first leading blockbuster role. Golding was previously in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, but was largely a supporting role.
The pic is directed by Robert Schwentke, who has previously directed The Time Traveler’s Wife, R.I.P.D, and RED. The latter being the most well-received.
Hasbro and Paramount have not made a live action G.I. Joe film since G.I. Joe and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which came out nearly a decade ago and were led by star Channing Tatum. However, now they are pivoting to the most well-received parts of the first two films: Snake Eyes.
Snake Eyes is set to be released on July 23, 2021, only in theaters.
