The cast of Netflix’s Adam Sandler film Spaceman has grown with the inclusion of Golden Globe nominee Paul Dano (Love & Mercy) and six-time SAG nominee Kunal Nayyar (Big Bang Theory) joining two-time Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) in the movie. In the directorial debut of Dano’s 2018 feature Wildlife, he directed Mulligan that premiered at the Canned Film Festival. Deadline learned of the casting news exclusively.
The director behind Chernobyl, Johan Renck, will be directing Spaceman, and it is based on the Jaroslav Kalfar 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia. Colby Day (Perks) is adapting the film.
In Spaceman, Sandler plays an astronaut who is sent to the edge of the cosmos to gather enigmatic ancient dust while his early existence crumbles around him. He looks to the only voice who can assist him in attempting to put it back together. It just so happens to be the property of a creature from the dawn of time, who is lurking in the shadows of his ship.
Deadline recently reported that Dano is expected to play a character inspired by Steven Spielberg’s father in the Amblin film based on the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s life.
Nayyar is currently filming in the AppleTV+ series Suspicion, about the abduction of the son of a prominent American businesswoman.
