Tragedy has struck Hollywood this weekend as the industry loses an important producer found in Stuart Cornfeld, who died of cancer Friday at age 67 according to Deadline.
The producer was best known for his work with Ben Stiller as they collaborated on Zoolander, Dodgeball, and Tropic Thunder in the 2000s.
Cornfeld’s closest friend, actress Liliana Greenfield-Sanders announced the passing of the producer via Twitter.
In a heartfelt tweet, Greenfield-Sanders wrote: “Very sad to let you know that our dear friend Stuart Cornfeld died today from cancer. He was the funniest person on the planet. I will miss him terribly. Do yourself a favor and watch one of the many amazing films he produced. He was truly one of the greats.”
Cornfeld was born and raised in Tarzana in 1952 and would eventually graduate from the American Film Institute in 1975. Cornfeld collaborated with Anne Bancroft on two directorial workshops and women’s pieces, prior to his introduction to her husband and famed director/writer Mel Brooks. This meeting prompted Brooks to hire Cornfeld as an assistant on the 1977 film High Anxiety.
Cornfeld would become a frequent collaborator with Bancroft and Brooks, and later became an executive producer on the Brooks-helmed project The Elephant Man.
