Per Deadline, it was revealed last week that Zoë Kravitz will be making her directorial feature debut with Pussy Island and that Channing Tatum would star in the film.
Friday, it was revealed that after a highly competitive fight to win rights to the film that MGM has acquired global distribution rights to Pussy Island but also that Naomi Ackie (Master of None) will star opposite Tatum.
Not only will Kravitz direct, but she also co-wrote the script with E.T. Feigenbaum.
Pussy Island follows Frida (Ackie), a young, astute cocktail waitress in Los Angeles with her sights on the prize: philanthropist and tech mogul Slater King (Tatum). She is prepared for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure when she cleverly pushes her way into King’s inner circle and, eventually, an intimate gathering on his private island. Frida senses that there’s more to this island than meets the eye, despite the magnificent backdrop, attractive people, endless champagne, and late-night dance parties. She can’t quite put her finger on it. Something terrifying.
“I am honored to be partnering with an iconic studio such as MGM for this project,” Kravitz said. “Their commitment to the art of storytelling is something that I truly admire and respect. Naomi Ackie is an extraordinary talent, and we can’t wait to see her bring this role to life.”
Ackie is currently set to star in the Sony biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody as Whitney Houston.
