The citizens of Gotham City frequently witness the night sky light up when Batman is needed most. This weekend that beacon of hope shined on Batman Day. In honor of the Caped Crusader, directed Zach Snyder released the first image of Commissioner Gordon in his upcoming Justice League, to be portrayed by Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash), standing next to the infamous bat-signal.

Recently, Simmons has been seen hitting the gym hard in preparation for this role. While this role may only play a small part in Justice League, Simmons’ hopes his character will be featured in Ben Affleck‘s upcoming solo Batman film as well.

Justice League is set to be released November 17, 2017.
