Tom Gormican couldn’t have asked for a better leading-trio for his film That Awkward Moment, which marks his debut for both screenwriting and directing. Miles Teller is a veteran of wide-release comedies like Project X and 21 & Over and was the lead in the critically-acclaimed coming-of-age drama The Spectacular Now; Michael B. Jordan is a shoe-in for a Best Actor Oscar-nom for his performance in this year’s Fruitvale Station, and rounding out the trio is some handsome kid named Zac Efron.
When Mikey ( Jordan) goes through a tough break-up, his two best friends, Jason and Daniel (Efron and Teller, respectively), vow to stay single for solidarity. This becomes harder when they “accidentally” find themselves in friendships with women that look, smell, and taste like relationships. The only thing that remains is That Awkward Moment when men and women have to define their relationships.
It’s hard to imagine showcasing the chemistry between the three leading actors without seeing the trailer in the “red-band” format. Also, the film’s more original situations and comedic gags are not suitable for all audiences, but they really set That Awkward Moment apart from a lot of other R-rated rom-coms.
We’ll have to wait and see if Gormican can truly capture the Moment when the film debuts February 7. Check out the red-band trailer below:
