Zac Efron may have started out his career in the Disney Channel franchise High School Musical, but has made quite a name for himself since. He has been in a number of hit films, such as The Greatest Showman (2017), and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019), in which he portrayed serial killer Ted Bundy. He is now set to star in the Australian survival thriller Gold, alongside Animal Kingdom actor Anthony Hayes, who is the director and co-star in the film. Gold tells the story about two strangers who find the largest gold nugget to ever exist. They must formulate a plan to protect the gold nugget, which means one man will stay behind, which will be Efron’s character, while the other leaves to get the needed equipment.
According to Hollywood Reporter, director Hayes says, “This is an exciting, gripping and timely tale about greed, humanity, who we are, what we’ve done to the world and where we are heading if we aren’t careful”. He is thrilled to have Zac Efron as his co-star, and states that Efron’s character in this film and what he has to offer is, “…like nothing we’ve seen from him before”. Gold is an original film out of the Australian Steamer “Stan”. Altitude Film Sales will introduce the film to buyers at the upcoming AFM virtual market, and the film is set to be released in Australian cinemas through Madman Entertainment before officially being screened on Stan in 2021.
