You’re Not You, starring Academy Award winner Hilary Swank, Emmy Rossum, and Josh Duhamel, is getting a theatrical release in the United States now that Entertainment One Films US has acquired the distribution rights. A release date has not been announced, but it figures to see release later this year.
Based on Michelle Wildgen’s acclaimed book of the same name (it was a New York Times Editor’s Choice pick and one of People Magazine’s Top Ten Books of 2006), the film centers on a wealthy woman, Kate (Swank), who suffers from ALS (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig’s disease), and her relationship with a college student, Bec (Rossum), who becomes her caregiver. Bec, whose chaotic lifestyle has driven her to accept the caretaking job, develops a powerfully intimate relationship with Kate that alters both of their lives forever.
Though by no means a romantic drama, this films seems to be right up the alley of director George C. Wolfe (Nights in Rodanthe [2008]) and co-writer Shana Feste (Endless Love [2014]). Emmy Rossum, whose breakout roles were in Mystic River (2003) and The Phantom of the Opera (2004), for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination, starred in last year’s financial flop Beautiful Creatures. However, her turn as an accomplished but struggling single mother in the acclaimed Before I Disappear (2014) may mark a return to form.
Having been absent from theatrically released films since New Year’s Eve (2011), Swank also co-produced the film with her partner Molly Smith (Something Borrowed [2011], P.S. I Love You [2008]) of 2S Films. Additional producers include Denise Di Novi (Crazy Stupid Love [2011], Edward Scissorhands [1990]) and Alison Greenspan (Monte Carlo [2011], Ramona and Beezus [2010]) of Di Novi Pictures.
Other notable cast members include Academy Award winner Maria Gay Harden, Ali Larter, Frances Fisher, Julian McMahon, Jason Ritter, Ernie Hudson, Loretta Devine, and Andrea Savage.
