‘You Can See Everything’ Hype Creates A Surge In Viewership In Hulu Series ‘The Dropout’ And A Boost In Readership In The Book ‘Bad Blood’

Katie Holmes and Nathan Fielder in 'You Can See Everything'

Amid the hype surrounding the Katie Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, many pieces of media have surged in popularity.

The Hulu series The Dropout, which stars Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes, saw a sharp increase in viewership throughout September and October. According to Luminate data, the series accrued over 36.6 million streaming minutes in September, a 220% increase from August. 2.8 million of those minutes came from September 9th, just days after A24 released the first trailer for You Can See Everything. Viewership on the series continues to go up throughout October, with an average of over 844,000 minutes a day through October 13, which is more than any other month this year except for September.

Other Katie Holmes’ media has similarly increased because of the Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim documentary. According to data from BookScan, the book “Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup”, written by John Carreyrou, which centers around Katie Holmes and her former company Theranos, had paperback sales increase by 36% throughout the week of September 26th, and has had a year-to-date increase of 36%. Streams of the audiobook of Bad Blood on Spotify have also increased by a staggering 715% from September 23 to October 13. Similarly, listenership on multiple podcasts related to Katie Holmes has increased dramatically, with the ABC News podcast The Dropout up 673% and the companion podcast to Bad Blood, Bad Blood: The Final Chapter, up 342%.

You Can See Everything, the documentary behind this surge in viewership, listenership, and readership, was co-directed by Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder. It centers on Nathan Fielder and Katie Holmes, as Fielder stays with Holmes in the 34 days leading up to her going to prison on fraud charges related to Theranos to better understand who Holmes is as a person. The documentary has been critically acclaimed since its surprise premiere at the Telluride Film Festival. It currently has a near-perfect 99% Certified Fresh Score on Rotten Tomatoes. The documentary has been called the “documentary to end all by documentaries” by TheWrap film critic William Bibbiani, and “modern masterpiece of deceit” by The Guardian film critic Adrian Horton.

You Can See Everything is now playing in theaters.
