Emergency Contact is an original action project that has landed at Warner Brothers. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dwayne Johnson, and Beau Flynn will lead the production of the film, casting Abdul-Mateen as star and executive producer according to a new report from THR. Flynn’s FlynnPictureCo. and Johnson’s Seven Bucks Production will produce the Warner Bros. project.
The studio picked up the pitch from writing team Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, who both have collaborated on works such as Black Adam and the critically acclaimed legal drama The Mauritanian.
Details of the project are being kept under wraps for now, but Emergency Contact is described as a high-concept action film set in the underground music scene of Austin, Texas.
For Abdul-Mateen, Emergency Contact marks the actor’s continuous Hollywood ascent. He previously won an Emmy for playing a key role in HBO’s acclaimed limited series, Watchmen. He has also starred as the villain in Warner Bros’ Aquaman, a role he is reprising for Aquaman 2. And Abdul-Mateen has high-profile movies under his belt such as The Matrix 4 and Candyman, which are both due for release later this year. The actor will also shoot for George Miller’s latest Mad Max project, Furiosa.
In addition to Black Adam, FlynnPictureCo. and Seven Bucks have several projects together. Their next release is Disney’s action-adventure movie Jungle Cruise starring Johnson and Emily Blunt, due on July 30. The two companies have also wrapped Red Notice, another action film starring Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot.
