Prolific actor Andre Braugher, known to many as Captain Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, died earlier this month at the age of 61, after battling lung cancer. Following the actor’s death, a writer/producer for the scrapped film, Scoob! Holiday Haunt, revealed that Braugher had a role in the animated sequel.
Set to be the follow up to 2020’s Scoob!, the unreleased Holiday Haunt, which was set to take place around Christmas, unfortunatley met the same fate as Batgirl, and more recently, Coyote Vs. ACME.
All three films were shelved by Warner Bros., opting to recieve the tax breaks instead of releasing the films. As ComicBook.com states, Scoob! Holiday Haunt in particular was reportedly 90% complete when the time came to cancel the project.
Writer and producer for the film, Tony Cervone, recently made a post on Instagram, paying his respects for the late actor, while also confirming that Braugher had played the part of Chef Dave in the film.
“Andre Braugher played our beloved Chef Dave in ‘SCOOB Holiday Haunt’. When we met he asked us to tell him a little bit about our movie and ourselves. After ten minutes he said, ‘I’ve always had a soft spot for Scooby-Doo, I’m in.’ We were so happy he was. He was an extremely talented, kind, funny gentleman who performed his role as a cartoon chef with the same dignity he would Shakespeare. We were lucky to spend time with him. I am truly sorry his work went the way of a tax write off,” he wrote in the post.
As well as starring alongside Andy Samberg and Melissa Fumero in Nine-Nine, Braugher also appeared in Frequency, City Of Angels, and Glory, among many other works.
