Woody Harrelson, Kyra Sedgwick Join Untitled Coming of Age Film

Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire – Part 2) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Road Within) have joined a new, untitled coming-of-age film from first-time director Kelly Fremon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film stars Hailee Steinfeld (Pitch Perfect 2) as Nadine and centers around her and best friend Krista navigating high school. Their friendship quickly makes a turn for the worst when Nadine discovers that Krista has been dating her older brother behind her back. Harrelson is playing a teacher at their school while Sedgwick is in talks to play Nadine’s mother. Oscar winning writer/director James L. Brooks (As Good as it Gets) will serve as on the films’ producers with STX Entertainment planning to distribute the film.

With The Hunger Games franchise coming to an end this fall, Harrelson is building an impressive slate of upcoming roles. Last week, saw the release a photo of the actor as Lyndon B. Johnson in the upcoming bio LBJ. He was also recently brought on to War of the Planet of the Apes. Sedgwick continues to build her indie resume with Cop Car and Big Sky having released last month and After Darkness currently in post-production.

Fremon’s only feature credit is writing the script for the romantic comedy, Post Grad. She clearly has an interest in the female coming of age experience.

No release date has been set for the film which still needs a new title as well as casting the role of Krista as well as Nadine’s older brother.
