Wonder Woman Embraces the 80’s in First ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Poster

Nostalgia for the 1980’s has been a major influence in Hollywood movies and, while the trend has started to die down, it’s not completely gone. Evidence of this can be seen in the marketing for the upcoming DC film Wonder Woman 1984. All of the posters and marketing for this movie have clearly been influenced by retro 80’s visual styles and iconography.

After the worldwide critical success of the first Wonder Woman, DC’s Amazonian heroine will be returning to theaters for a new adventure. According to Screen Rant, Wonder Woman 1984 will take place, as the title suggests, in the year 1984, with Wonder Woman, aka Diana Prince facing off against one of her most iconic foes: the Cheetah, played by Kristen Wiig.

In addition to Gal Gadot reprising her role as Wonder Woman, other returning cast members include Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as Antiope, and Chris Pine as a somehow alive Steve Trevor. Pedro Pascal will also be joining the cast in an unknown role, but one long-running theory is that he’ll be playing businessman/supervillain Maxwell Lord. As of this moment, nothing has been confirmed.

Wonder Woman 1984 is directed by Patty Jenkins, who also co-wrote the script. It will be released in theaters on June 5, 2020.
