‘Wolf Creek 2’ Returns to the Outback With a New Poster

The sequel to the 2005 Australian horror film, Wolf Creek now has a poster. Shock Til You Drop reports the poster is “in anticipation of [Wolf Creek 2’s] February 20, 2014 release in Australia. A trailer is set to be released on October 21st.”

The original Wolf Creek – product of writer/director Greg Mclean’s twisted mind – is the intense, brutal story of three young backpackers traversing Australia’s immense outback who come across Mick (John Jarratt), a dangerous man living out in the wild. The three main characters fight for their lives as Mick picks them off, one by one. Mclean has assumed the same duties on Wolf Creek 2, which will follow a premise similar to the first one, with Jarratt reprising his role as Mick who finds a new group of travelers to terrorize.

Don’t let the smile fool you. John Jarratt most definitely has a knife.

Wolf Creek was released October 6, 2005 in Australia, and a wide U.S. release followed on Christmas that year. The film was praised for its likeable protagonists (a surprising rarity in modern horror), slow buildup to the scares, and for Jarratt’s frightening performance. It was also a surprising success, making over $ 16 million in the USA alone – on a $1 million budget.

Due to the first movie’s US success, a stateside release of Wolf Creek 2 would not be surprising. Horror fans will have to wait until sometime after February 20th next year to find out.
