Steven Spielberg has just added another impressive notch to his already expansive career. As the Grammy’s are currently ongoing, one of the latest wins has elevated Spielberg to EGOT status.
EGOT refers to the four big awards in the entertainment industry. Specifically, it stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. The EGOT status is a fairly elusive one, with a sparing handful of people who have gained it, including Elton John, Mel Brooks, and Whoopi Goldberg.
Going down the list, Spielberg got his first Emmy for A Pinky & The Brain Christmas in 1996, his first Oscar for Schindler’s List in 1994, and his first Tony in 2022 for A Strange Loop.
The final accolade he needed, StereoGum noted that Spielberg got his Grammy for the documentary Music By John Williams. Winning the category of Best Music Film, Music By John Williams was directed by Laurent Bouzereau, with direct involvement from Spielberg, both in front of the camera and behind it.
Spielberg and Williams have been frequent collaborators for many years. The first project the two worked on together was one of Spielberg’s first projects, 1974’s Sugarland Express. Since then, Williams composed the music for countless Spielberg films, from Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones, up to Saving Private Ryan and War Of The Worlds. He will also be composing Spielberg’s newest film, Disclosure Day.
