Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield is an upcoming low-budget horror slasher film. The feature is set to be released in theaters on February 15 across the US by Fathom Events, Altitude acquired the title for the U.K distribution and it is also set to premiere in Mexico and Canada. The distribution of the film was announced this week.
The story, based in the classic children’s books by author A.A. Milne is a horror version that imagines the future of beloved characters Pooh, Piglet and Christopher Robin. According to the first trailer, after being abandoned by Christopher Robin, Pooh and Piglet become sadistic murderers and start tormenting the surroundings of the Hundred Acre Wood.
Blood and Honey started to raise interest after becoming viral when stills were released online in the summer. This interest allowed the film to get distribution and also expand the production, getting additional shots.
Milne’s book entered in public domain at the beginning of 2022 which allowed Frake-Waterfield to use the characters for this film. This horror take will be the first Winnie-the-Pooh related release since the story became of public use. The director is already planning a sequel and preparing a new film, also based on a story under public domain, James Matthew Barrie’s Peter Pan entitled Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmare. Few is known about it yet, except that it is also a horror take of the classic story.
