On June 10th 2019, it was announced that Denise Nickerson, a child actress known for numerous film and television roles, was taken off life support due to declining health after being sent to the hospital for a major medical emergency. The following morning, her family announced that the actress passed away at the age of 62 on social media by saying “She’s Gone”.
Nickerson started her acting debut in various commercials for a heating company in Florida. She later appeared in various television shows, most notably the cult soap opera, Dark Shadows, where she played Amy Jennings and Nora Collins. Though probably her more well recognized role was in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, where she played the gum-obsessed Violet Beauregarde. Of course that role was very memorable as one of the main ensemble children, especially in the scene near the end of the film when she turns into a blueberry. She would later go on to appear in other Television shows, including The Brady Bunch and as a recurring cast member on The Electric Company. She retired early on in her career to pursue a career as a Nurse, but would make a few appearances in various specials and reunions relating to Willy Wonka.
Although she may not have appeared in much, Denise Nickerson will always be remembered for her numerous roles in both film and television. She was always able to give a fun performance that made a lasting impression especially as Violet from Willy Wonka. She lived a great long life and will forever be remembered for her roles. May she rest in peace.
