The first film in the series, based on Pierre Boulle’s novel, was released in 1968 by then 20th Century Fox and became one of his biggest hits that year, earning him an Oscar. It was then followed by four theatrical sequels and two television series. In 2001, Tim Burton’s remake of Planet of the Apes was released, followed by 2011’s remake of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, followed by two sequels, 2014’s Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes.
