Room, an adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s 2010 best-selling novel, has just announced William H. Macy (Shameless) and Joan Allen (The Bourne Series) as its final cast additions. The former Pleasantville co-stars will join Brie Larson (The Spectacular Now) and child actor Jacob Tremblay (The Smurfs 2) who star as “Ma” and Jack, a mother and son who have been forced to live in a small room for many years. Told from five-year-old Jack’s perspective, he has grown up knowing the small room as home, while his mother has lived in quiet desperation trying to get them free.
Lenny Abrahamson (Frank) is set to direct the Donoghue screenplay. As filming presently commences, a final release date from A24 is yet to be determined.
Macy’s role in the film is currently undisclosed; however, if he has signed on to play “Old Nick,” the man holding Ma and Jack in captivity, audiences will be in for a treat. The Oscar-nominated actor will be in good company with fellow Oscar-nominated actress Allen taking on an unknown role as well as Larson who has recently begun to prove her longevity in the acting world– namely through her performance in last year’s critically acclaimed Short Term 12.
Until Room hits theaters, Macy will be rounding out a productive 2014 with his directorial debut Rudderless, as well as the soon-to-be-released Cake, starring Jennifer Aniston (Horrible Bosses). In the new year, he will be continuing with the fifth season of the Showtime series Shameless in addition to appearing alongside wife Felicity Huffman (Transamerica) in the film Stealing Cars. Ahead for Allen will be her role in the fourth season of Fox’s The Killing.
