Will Smith to Replace Hugh Jackman in ‘Collateral Beauty’

After losing star Hugh Jackman last month to scheduling conflicts, PalmStar Media’s Collateral Beauty has found new male lead in Will Smith.

In the aftermath of losing Jackman, Johnny Depp was rumored as being courted by PalmStar, but it now appears that they landed a different major movie star in Smith.

The film will focus on a New York advertising executive’s descent into depression after a tragedy strikes his life, and the ensuing innovative plan by his colleagues to break him out of his depression.

Most recently seen in Focus and currently filming DC’s Suicide Squad, Smith has had a long career filled with hit movies. From Independence Day to I Am Legend, Smith was arguably the biggest movie star in the world as of five years ago. But after the box office bomb that was After Earth, his star status has tapered off lately. Returning to proven franchises and joining the superhero world should continue to feed his illustrious career of box office hits.

Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Jason Segel (Sex Tape, TVs How I Met Your Mother) have also been attached to the project.

The project will be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) and the script is being penned by Allan Loeb (Just Go With It, Rock of Ages).

The film is set to be released in 2016.
