Will Smith And Martin Lawrence Talk Conditions To Make Another ‘Bad Boys’ Film

With the most recent success for Bad Boys: Ride or Die, main stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are already being asked the age old question, when is the next film. Seeing as the film made over $100 million internationally during its beginning release, according to ComicBook.com, some of the press is already asking what the duo’s plans are for the franchise’s future.

During press interviews for the film, both Smith and Lawrence shared similar thoughts as to what would constitute a sequel film for the franchise, one of those being that they can’t just make a film because they want to make it.

“I never wanted to be one of those dudes who make sequels just because people will go. I want to make them because there is something to say and the characters have a place that they’re developing to that will be interesting and fun to watch and maybe even a little helpful,” Smith said.

Lawrence also shared that he is an actor who never says never when it comes to coming back to work on a sequel project, but also says that the film needs to make sense. “Will and I have a great time working together, so as long as the fans want it and the demand is there, I’ll keep trying to give them what they want,” he said.

Smith also gave a joke answer when it came to some of the new characters and actors taking part in the franchise, saying that they will need to step up if future installments are confirmed. “Well, these younger actors are going to need to do more of the stunts, that’s for sure,” Smith told Entertainment Weekly in an interview.

Ride or Die follows detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, played by Smith and Lawrence, continuing their patrols in Miami. When their late police captain, played by Joe Pantoliano, is being framed for working with dangerous cartel, it’s up to Lowrey and Burnett to go rogue and clear his name. The film has currently made $218.7 million during its time at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
