Deadline has reported that Will Poulter, Midsommar and We’re the Millers star, will be playing Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Rumors had circled around the internet earlier this week, but Deadline and director James Gunn himself have confirmed the news.
Adam Warlock was teased in one of the after credits scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Elizabeth Debicki’s Ayesha was last scene gazing over Adam Warlock’s cocoon, though a similar cocoon appeared in the original 2014 Guardians adventure, it is clear that Ayesha has created this version of Adam, calling the creation simply, “Him” (an original name for Warlock from the comics). The character had originally appeared in Fantastic Four comics, but it is clear that the character has always been meant for the Guardians in the MCU.
Poulter has been quite the character actor over the last decade being in everything from silly comedies to cold dramas. He recently wrapped the heist film The Score as well as a small part in the miniseries The Underground Railroad. Poulter is a versatile actor with experience in comedy and drama, a perfect fit for the Guardians team as well as the MCU as a whole.
It is unknown when production will start or if Poulter will appear in more MCU films, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled for a May 5, 2023 release date.
