Another great pillar of the musical community of Hollywood has sadly passed away, Will Jennings best known for co-writing “My Heart Will Go On” from the legendary film Titanic with Celine Dion, after declining health in recent years. Jennings had an expansive and varied career with numerous awards won through his prowess as a composer. While the Titanic stands as his landmark achievement it should be noted that Jennings left a lasting legacy in Hollywood as both a composer and a wonderful friend. His passing was announced by his estate on September 7th while in his home in Tyler Texas.
Collaborating with many other artists over the decades Jennings saw numerous awards over his career, three of which being Grammys for “My Heart Will Go On” along with an additional 2 Oscars fro that song. From Whitney Houston with “Didn’t We Almost Have It All” to Steve Winwood’s 1981 album Arc of a Diver, Jennings stayed busy offering his talents and skills to artists of all ventures. Jennings was inducted into the Hollywood Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006 and afterward continued to work on soundtracks and other musical ventures well into 2019 before his health saw him retire.
In an interview with Deadline Peter Wolf shared this quote about Jennings passing, “A Lot of Good Ones Gone’…A sad time, the passing of Will Jennings, a maestro, brilliant mind and a gentle spirit. Will shared his talents with me, ever patient and generous, he was a treasured friend and teacher, enriching my life in so many ways. It was an enormous honor to have worked with such a musical genius for so many years”
We at Mxdwn extend our deepest condolences to the Jennings family and friends for this tragic loss.
