The Santa Barbara International Film Festival just bestowed one of their highest accolades to an iconic actor. The Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence In Film has been given to Will Ferrell.
Will Ferrell has had a highly prolific career when it comes to film. Among his iconic titles include Christmas classic Elf, Adam McKay’s Step Brothers, Anchorman movies, Barbie, and many others. Ferrell has also lent his talents to voice acting for projects such as The Lego Movie and its sequel, as well as this year’s Despicable Me 4.
Hollywood Reporter notes that Ferrell is the newest addition in a long line of recipients for the Kirk Douglas Award. Other big names such as Hugh Jackman, Michelle Yeoh, Harrison Ford, and many others.
Upon accepting his award, Ferrell didn’t shy away from any of his characteristic humor, never failing to get healthy laughter from the audience. He thanked the festival directly for the recognition of both himself and for comedy in general, saying, “When it’s good, it looks easy. But it’s hard.”
Kirk Douglas himself, the namesake of the award, led a highly prolific career in his life, spanning multiple different facets of filmmaking. He starred in films such as Spartacus and Paths Of Glory but also served as a producer on several films and even wrote and directed his film, Scalawag.
