Whoopi Goldberg has remained in the public eye for quite while. She’s one of the few EGOT recipients (meaning she’s won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award) and a long-time host of the popular daytime talk show, The View. She’s also getting ready to reprise her role as Deloris Van Cartier in Disney+’s Sister Act 3, and, in her free time, she’s apparently working on a script for a film focusing on an older Black female superhero.
“Since I was a little kid, I’ve been obsessed with superheroes,” Goldberg said in an interview with Variety. “They’re all saving the earth all the time. But do you know who’s really going to save the earth? Old Black women.”
But, with the number of projects she’s currently working on, it doesn’t seem like she’d have much free time. She’s producing The Emmett Till Story, which centers around the infamous lynching of a Black 14-year-old in 1955 Mississippi, and she’s reprising her role as Guinan on Star Trek: Picard, a role that she first played back in 1988. Goldberg also has no plans to leave The View.
“I’m there until I don’t think I can do it anymore, but I’m not there yet,” said Goldberg. “As long as they allow me to do both [acting and hosting], I can do it. The minute they say, ‘No, you can’t,’ then I have to figure out what to do.”
Goldberg is also set to appear briefly in interview segments of the upcoming documentary, Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It, which will release in theaters June 18.
