As the Marvel Cinematic Universe prepares for Phase 3 in their quest of world domination, one property may be getting the short thrift. Inhumans, which was previously announced to come out in theaters in between Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2, may be in jeopardy or possibly, scrapped altogether.
The announcement of Inhumans was revealed in 2014, but quite a lot has changed in Marvel land since then. Most importantly, thanks to a deal struck with Sony, Marvel Studios will be incorporating the upcoming standalone Spider-Man reboot into their extended canon. That film is expected for release in July 2017. Two other Marvel films has also been given plum release dates between the Infinity War titles – those would be Captain Marvel, eagerly anticipated for it will be first Marvel title to feature female in the lead (casting announcements are expected sometime this summer) and Ant-Man and The Wasp, Peyton Reed’s sequel of last summer’s Ant-Man which looks to promote Evangeline Lilly’s character to superhero status. But what about Inhumans?
Collider recently spoke with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about the project. He said:
Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we addedSpider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us. Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.
Speculations have arose that Inhumans may be dumped for good since the subject was explored on the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. When asked, “But it’s not a matter of “they’re already doing that on TV, we’re not doing it?,” Feige responded: “No, it’s a question of when.” If this doesn’t sound definitive, perhaps it’s not supposed to, at least not yet. For now, Inhumans is earmarked for a release date of July 12, 2019. Watch this space.
