The Weinstein Co. is looking to make inroads into the Best Actress field with its re-release of 2013 Toronto International Film Festival darling The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby and an ad campaign focusing on Jessica Chastain’s acclaimed performance in the film.Rigby was initially envisioned as two films, subtitled Him and Her, starring Chastain and James McAvoy (X-Men: Apocalypse). Designed to allow the audience to see the story of love and loss as perceived from both sides of a troubled relationship, each film told the couple’s tale from either his or her perspective. After its warm reception in Toronto, the Weinsteins acquired Rigby and urged director Ned Benson to merge the two films into one, subtitled Them. All three films had limited releases in select theaters, but it seems that the Weinsteins are putting their focus on Chastain’s performance as Eleanor by re-releasing Her for a one-week run in selected cities.
Chastain, two time Oscar nominee (The Help, Zero Dark Forty), has had quite a busy year, with appearances as the title character in director Liv Ullman’s Miss Julie and supporting roles in Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and J.C Chandor’s A Most Violent Year, which was recently named Best Picture by the National Board of Review.
