Welcome to the Weekly Trailer Roundup, where we count down the top five trailers released in the past week, “top” being defined any way we want to at the moment…exciting, ridiculous, best, worst…
These are the trailers that, for one reason or another, you should be paying attention to.
There were some really bad, relatively high profile trailers this week. Or maybe not bad, but generic. Predictable.
At any rate, we’ve decided to focus on a few of the more meritorious trailers released this week, and this is our list:
#5 – Big Sur Theatrical Trailer 2
A tale of Jack Kerouac post On the Road (which saw its own adaptation last year), the story follows a three week escape in Big Sur and the self-exploration of a writer haunted by doubts.
#4 – The Human Scale Theatrical Trailer
This would appear to be one of the more compelling docs to come around in a while for the sheer weightiness of its subject matter. Human ecology and urban planning aren’t concerns going away anytime soon.
#3 – That Awkward Moment Red Band Trailer
Zac Efron seems to be choosing a less controversial way to break out of the Disney mold than other former teen stars we could mention, but between Neighbors, the frat boy comedy that pits him against Seth Rogen, and this film, he’s certainly accomplishing the same thing. Miles Teller is certainly working hard to make his mark as an up-and-coming star as well, but it’s Michael B. Jordan (who criminally gets almost zero screen time in this trailer) who might be the most compelling of the three. Beware, this is the red band version.
#2 – Frozen – Elsa Trailer
I didn’t even realize this was a musical. This movie already looked pretty fun (with a quality pedigree), but if Disney can nail the musical magic that fueled their late ’80s/early ’90s renaissence, they could have something pretty special on their hands.
#1 – The Grand Budapest Hotel Theatrical Trailer
Nothing else was going to win the week. Wes Anderson’s latest looks like a hoot. Hurry up, March!
