Weapons brings in $25 million for its second week with a notably low drop of 43% from its first week. Horror films, due to their much more niche audience, will often see much higher drops, making Weapons an exception to the case. Weapons was followed closely by Freakier Friday with $14.5 million, also in its second week.
In third came Nobody 2 from Universal, a follow-up to the pandemic-era action film Nobody. Scoring under projections with $9.25 million for its opening week, it will likely bounce back with its premiere on streaming later next month. In a continued disappointing slope-down, Fantastic Four: First Steps took fourth with $8.8 million in its fourth week. Fantastic Four was quickly followed by the Bad Guys 2 with $7.5 million in their third week in theaters.
James Gunn’s Superman took sixth this week again, with $5.28 million, funny enough, also in its sixth week. The Naked Gun followed in 7th with $4.8 million in its third week, helping the adult comedy cross over the $40 million mark for a current net total of $41.97 million.
Jurassic World Rebirth hung on for its 7th week in theaters with $2.9 million in eighth place. Truly a summer for the dinosaur fans, addressable Rebirth now crosses the domestic $300 million marker for its current grand total of $332.12 million.
Rounding out the bottom of the list is F1: The Movie, which saw $2.66 million in its eighth week, having cemented longstanding appeal over the summer for a truly grand win for Apple Studios, as F1 has made $182.8 million for its domestic tour.
A very notable newcomer this week to hit the charts at number ten with a limited re-release is Toho’s 2016 Shin Godzilla, which brought in $1.62 million. Shin Godzilla was released in theaters again to help build anticipation, as the follow-up has been confirmed to be nearing completion after a multi-year delay. Shin Godzilla’s follow-up should be noted as a completely separate project from Godzilla Minus One’s sequel, which is also in the works from the same studio.
