Wayans Brothers Return To ‘Scary Movie’ Franchise

After 18 years, the Wayans brothers are returning to the Scary Movie franchise, bringing a reboot of the popular horror comedy. The news was announced at CinemaCon in April. The franchise reboot will feature a completely original script written by the Wayans brothers, the comedic minds behind the original Scary Movie and its sequel. They will be joined by Rick Alvarez, who served as co-producer on Scary Movie 2, in writing and producing.

According to Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans, as quoted in Variety, “We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again. This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again.”

Miramax, the studio behind the franchise, is thrilled to be working with the Wayans brothers once again, according to CEO Jonathan Glickman. This upcoming film will mark the sixth installment in the franchise. Since the last Scary Movie, the horror genre has evolved significantly, giving the brothers plenty of fresh material to parody. Paramount Pictures will release the film worldwide, with a theatrical release slated for 2025.
