Focus Features has released a new trailer for Insidious: Chapter 3, the prequel to the hit horror franchise. Set before the hauntings of the Lambert family, the movie centers on Quinn Brenne (Stefanie Scott) and her father (Dermot Mulroney), who are targeted by an evil supernatural power. They recruit the help of psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye), who would go on to help the Lambert family in the previous two films.
This marks the first movie in the series that won’t include Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne, who played the patriarch and matriarch of the Lambert family. Along with Shaye, the only returning actors for the series are Leigh Whannel (Saw) and Angus Sampson (Where the Wild Things Are), who are reprising their roles.
This is also the directorial debut for Whannell, who wrote the previous two movies, which were directed by his frequent collaborator, James Wan. The two first got attention with the first entry in the Saw series. Wan is a producer on this entry. Annabelle, last year’s prequel to The Conjuring – Wan’s other currently running franchise – was a hit when you consider its low budget.
Insidious Chapter 3 is set to be released June 5, two months later than the originally announced April 3 release date. You can watch the trailer below.
