The Sofia Coppola–Bill Murray Lost in Translation Christmas reunion looks to be coming together quickly. The pair announced the collaboration back in March. Since then, the film received an official title with a delightful play on words – A Very Murray Christmas – Netflix picked it up for distribution, and now the film has its first teaser.
The footage brings together all the elements many love about both Coppola and Murray – her elegantly balanced dark and flashy style, and his charming brand of gloom. From Murray’s reluctant smirk in the teaser, we can imagine his Christmas to be a little bit more “bah humbug” and a little less merry.
Co-written by Murray and producing partner Mitch Glazer, the story will follow Murray as a washed up actor trying to avoid a shark who is desperate to sign him. The special will also feature some carols and a high-profile cast playing fictionalized versions of themselves including George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Miley Cyrus, and the LA Tower Bar’s famous host Dmitri Dmitrov as Murray’s valet.
A Very Murray Christmas is currently set to be released via Netflix on an unknown December 2015 date. This way, audiences will be able to cozy up by the fire to enjoy the film rather than braving the cold to see it in theaters.
