Alec Baldwin will be joining the large ensemble of actors slated to appear alongside Warren Beatty in Beatty’s new, as of yet untitled Howard Hughes biopic. Baldwin is set to play Howard Hughes’s former key confidant, Robert Maheu.
Based on Howard Hughes’ later years, the story centers on an affair Hughes had with a much younger woman. Beatty himself is starring as the titular character in addition to writing, directing, and producing the film, and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones actress Lily Collins will play the much younger love interest. Baldwin joins a high caliber cast including, along with Beatty and Collins, Candice Bergen, Matthew Broderick, Martin Sheen, Annette Bening, and Oliver Platt.
Baldwin is perhaps the last piece to the puzzle, as the film has already been in production for over 2 months. He most recently appeared in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine opposite Cate Blanchett. His next appearance will be this December in Cameron Crowe’s latest film.
Beatty, it seems, is putting out all the stops for his passion project and return to the big screen. The film will mark 14 years since he last appeared in New Line’s Romantic Comedy Town & Country in 2001. Adding Baldwin to the mix and Beatty coming back to the big screen certainly adds intrigue to this project. We’ll look forward to more information as it comes, and the results will speak for themselves.
