Warner Herzog’s Bucking Fastard made waves at the Venice Film Festival. The film, starring Kate and Rooney Mara, received six-minute standing ovation after its premiere. The Hollywood Reporter shared a video of director Warner Herzog wiping away tears during the standing ovation on X (formerly Twitter). The Hollywood Reporter also shared a clip of Warner Herzog taking a final bow and blowing kisses to the audience as he exited the premiere.
In Bucking Fastard, real-life sisters Rooney and Kate Mara play two sisters who are, according to the film’s festival description, so close to each other that they speak in unison. Here’s the film’s full synopsis:
Bucking Fastard is a film about two sisters, Jean and Joan Holbrooke, who are so close to each other that they speak in unison, love the same man, and have the same dreams. They even make the same slip of tongue in unison. We cannot see the world as they see it, but we do see how the world reacts to them – through the courts and the press, through those that want to help and those who want to use them, through the eyes of beasts both tame and wild, and even through their own echoes in the core of the earth.
Warner Herzog wrote and directed the film. Herzog also produced the film, along with Ariel Leon Isacovitch, Agnes Chu, Emanuele Moretti, and Andrea Bucko. Orlando Bloom and Domhnall Gleeson are also among the film’s cast. Bucking Fasterd has not yet received distribution, with HanWay Films handling worldwide sales.
