The 1960’s TV series Gilligan’s Island will be getting the feature film treatment fashioned as a star vehicle for Broadway’s The Book Of Mormon’s Josh Gad.
Gilligan’s Island enjoyed 98 episodes on network TV and then entered eternal life in syndication. It all started when the SS Minnow, on its way from Hawaii, gets shipwrecked and stranded on a tropical island. It hasn’t been verified if Josh Gad will play the part of Bob Denver in the title role of the hapless Gilligan, or the Skipper, originally played by Alan Hale Jr. There certainly are plenty of castaway character spots to fill; Mary Ann, Ginger, Thurston Howell Jr., The Professor, and Lovey. One can only imagine the creative cast could do in this wacky comedy-adventure.
Josh Gad will write the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, both writers who worked with Gad in penning the TV series 1600 Penn about a dysfunctional first family in the White House. Lloyd Schwartz and Ron Schwartz, two of the sons of Sherwood Schwartz (the original producer) who also produced The Brady Bunch, are co-producing with Tracey and Cathy Silvers.
Josh Gad is also lined up to star in the biopic of stand-up comedian Sam Kinison, directed by Borat helmer Larry Charles, with a script by Rich Wells and produced by David Permut.
