Warner Bros. Set to Make Funko Pop Film Based on Collectible Figurines

Deadline reports that new film is being planned by Warner Bros. featuring the collectible Funko Pop figurines that have become a “must-have” merchandise phenomenon in recent years. Each Funko Pop figurine frame is essentially the same, with big, black eyes, an at-the-ready stance, and a prop or two in their hands. Funko Pop has figurines of characters from many different franchises, television shows, and books, including Harry Potter, Marvel, and Game of Thrones figurines. The partnership between Warner Bros. and Funko Pop has been going on for nearly 20 years and this new movie deal seeks to take their relationship a step further.

The CEO of Funko, Brian Mariotti has said this about the deal, “We’re thrilled for this opportunity and are committed to make an amazing Funko movie that stands on its own merit. This isn’t about selling toys or building a brand. The team at Warner Animation Group have a unique vision of what the first film should be and we are extremely excited to take this journey alongside them.”

The only production news so far is that Oscar-nominated Pixar artist Teddy Newton will draft a storyline and veteran Disney Animation director Mark Dindall may be signed on as director. There is no word on other casting news. We will update with further information as it is released.
