This morning, Deadline reported that Warner Bros. and DC are moving forward with a brand new version of the Green Lantern with Green Lantern Corps.
The studio hired writer David S. Goyer to pen the script with Justin Rhodes. Goyer will produce along with DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg executive producing.
The story of Green Lantern Corps is being described now as a Lethal Weapon in space and will focus on two of DC’s greatest Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart. This isn’t Jordan’s first time hitting the screen, as Ryan Reynolds previously portrayed the character, but it seems we must forget the past and move on into the future with a new incarnation. I’m sure Reynolds A.K.A. Wade Wilson/Deadpool wont mind one bit. For those of you who are unfamiliar with John Stewart, he was a Marine sniper before he joined the Lantern Corps and will serve a crucial role in expanding the DCEU. Conceived by Goyer and Johns, the story, based on a comic book origin, will focus on the ring wielding pair’s relationship as well as the rest of the Lantern Corps.
Sources says that they are working quickly to get a script so they are able to hire a director as soon as possible. Grabbing a name like Goyer is big for DC fans as he has scripted a couple popular titles in the past such as the Dark Knight series and most recently, Batman V Superman.
Rhodes’ most recent script work includes the Guillermo del Toro-directed Fantastic Voyage remake, in which Goyer served as executive producer.
