Warner Bros Pictures is trying to negotiate the film rights to Theo of Golden, by Allen Levi. According to Deadline, actor Tom Hanks (Toy Story) is set to star as the lead of the film.
Along with Hanks, Gil Netter (The Life of Pi) and Gary Goetzman (A Man Called Otto) are set to produce the movie. To join them as executive producer, Levi will be taking that role. The book follows a man named Theo in a fictional town called Golden. He ends up buying portraits of people and returning them to the subjects of the photos and learning about their lives.
In an interview with Russell Moore, Levi talks about the book and how to describe it to people who have never read it.
“That’s a really a hard question to answer. Just because to me it’s about so many things. I can always describe as a story about an old man who made choices–that allowed him to engage lovingly with people very different than himself. And who lived with a very deliberate sense of engaging people for the sake of building community, ” Levi said. He adds that most people describe as a book about “kindness”.
No other information has been reported about the movie at this time. Stay tuned to MXDWN for any future updates.
