Warner Bros. Announces Release Dates for Lego Lineup

Warner Bros. has announced release dates for its upcoming slate of Lego movies, including The Lego Batman MovieThe Lego Movie Sequel, and Ninjago. The trio will hit theaters starting in 2017 with The Lego Batman Movie kicking things off on February 10, followed by Ninjago on September 22. The aptly title The Lego Movie Sequel will round things off when it is released May 18, 2018.

Will Arnett (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will reprise his role from last year’s hit, The Lego Movie, as the bricked-out version of the Dark Knight. The movie will be written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who wrote and directed The Lego Movie. Chris McKay, who has directed a number of episodes of the stop-motion action figure sketch comedy TV show Robot Chicken, will be at the helm.

Based on the successful Lego/Action Figure-hybrid, Ninjago follows a group of ninjas, samurais, and sensei as they fight against dragons, snake-men, and a banished warlord attempting to return to power. Charlie Bean (TV’s Tron Uprising) is directing. His experience with action-oriented animated series’ makes him a seemingly ideal fit for the job. No casting has been announced. Lord and Miller are only producing this title, as it will likely take on a slightly more serious tone.

Lego Ninjago Figures

The Lego Movie Sequel will bring Lord and Miller back into the fold as screenwriters, but Rob Schrab (TV’s Community) will direct. The movie’s later release date is likely due to the challenges in bringing back the original’s impressive ensemble cast. Lord and Miller are also busy working on the script for Warner Bros.’ The Flash
