Warner Bros. Pictures acquired international rights for acclaimed Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s recent feature foray The Room Next Door. After reemerging into the film circle with his gay Western short Strange Way of Life, Almodóvar’s newest film will mark his English-language feature debut.
The film follows a strained relationship between war journalist Martha and her novelist daughter Ingrid as they are pulled apart by “a serious misunderstanding.” According to an official synopsis, the film will show ”the endless cruelty of war, the very different ways in which the two female authors approach and write about reality, death, friendship, and sexual pleasure as the best allies in the fight against horror.“ Warner Bros. claimed that Almódovar will evoke ”the sweet awakening with the chirping of birds“ as friends find themselves in ”an extreme and strangely sweet situation.“
With this acquirement, Warner Bros. will focus on spreading this film overseas to various essential territories. These territories include Italy, Spain, and Latin America.
Produced by El Deseo, The Room Next Door was shot in New York and Madrid with Movistar Plus’+ assistance. The cast includes Julianne Moore, Tilda Swinton, Alessandro Nivola, Juan Diego Botto, and Victoria Luengo.
There are no official announcements as to when the film will be released, but many Almodóvar fans will have plenty to look forward to when it comes out.
