Andy and Lana Wachowski, writers/directors/producers known for The Assassins, The Matrix franchise, Speed Racer, and Cloud Atlas, are returning to their favorite sci-fi/action/drama genre with Jupiter Ascending.
The film has been under tight wraps, with no official statements being released. Rumor has it, that the film is set in the distant future, where humans have been bred with animals for their inherent traits, altering their DNA. Breeding with a wolf would offer hunting skills, with a bee would create good work ethics, etc. Mila Kunis supposedly plays a Russian immigrant, a janitor, when she learns she possesses the same pure DNA as the Queen of the Universe. The Queen perceives this as a threat to her immortal rule, and wants Kunis’s character dead. More details will certainly come to light as the film approaches its July 2014 release, but even such a simple plot in the hands of the Wachowskis figures to be action packed and full of surprises.
Kunis’s co-star, Channing Tatum, recently sat down with MTV correspondent, Josh Horowitz, where he reflected on his experiences working on the film.
It’s crazy, it’s a tough movie. We’re trying to do stuff that’s never been done before. We’re doing some wild CGI stuff, but we don’t want to depend too much on the CGI. We’re doing wild stuff with cameras, we’re doing lots of real stunts. It’s exciting and scary at the same time.
Jupiter Ascending also stars Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones), and Eddy Redmayne (Les Miserables, My Week With Marilyn). Look for Jupiter Ascending in theaters July 25, 2014.
