It’s no secret that the upcoming Fast X is building towards a conclusion for the racing series. Even the tagline for the movie is “the end of the road begins”. Starting with 2001’s The Fast And The Furious, the racing series with Vin Diesel has been running with 9 films released to date, and a tenth one teased as a part one to a two-part finale, slated for release May 19th.
In the buildup for the upcoming film, series star Diesel has teased the possibility of the finale being a trilogy rather than a duology. On the Red Carpet in Rome, Diesel said, “Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if this could be a two-parter, and after the studio saw this (part one), they said ‘Could you make Fast X (the finale), a trilogy?’” Co-star Michelle Rodriguez said, “It’s three acts in any story.” The pair walked away before any more could be teased.

The idea of making this duology a trilogy seems to be an intelligent decision for the studio, financially speaking. The franchise has grossed over $6 billion worldwide cumulatively. While the newest is projected to do a modest $65 million in its first weekend, the studio presumably wants the lucrative franchise to go out with a bang. No matter what they introduce into each installment, fans keep coming back to see how the story of Dom Toretto plays out.
Fast X races to theaters on May 19th, featuring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jason Momoa, and many more. Stay with MXDWN for more news on the Fast and Furious saga.
