Jurassic World, scheduled to hit theaters on June 12, 2015, now has its villain. Vincent D’Onofrio will appear opposite Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Irrfan Kahn will also join the cast, though his role has not been specified. Jurassic World will be directed by Colin Trevorrow.
Universal has not given away any plot information about this fourth film in the Jurassic Park franchise. The studio has been working from a script by Trevorrow and Derek Connolly from 2013. The unexpected scope of the story prompted the shift in release date from 2014 to 2015, which puts Jurassic World in closer competition with Avengers: Age of Ultron and Star Wars: Episode VII. Trevorrow has stated that the film will take place 22 years after the original and Jeff Goldblum’s absence from the cast suggests that World will be a reboot of sorts.
Jurassic Park (1993) remains one of the most popular dinosaur movies due in part to impressive, for the time, visual effects to bring the dinosaurs to the big screen. Two sequels, The Lost World (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001), followed along with comic book and video game adaptations. Audiences will find out if Jurassic World can revive its franchise in 2015. If all else fails, we will still see The Good Dinosaur from Pixar later that year.
